Wayne Bunker’s 24 Pickleball Courts Target Early 2027, With No Exact Opening Date

Gail Hutchins

Las Vegas lists early 2027 for Wayne Bunker’s 24 courts. A July update suggested a 2026 ribbon cutting, but the announcements give no exact opening date.

Wayne Bunker Park’s new pickleball complex has an early-2027 opening target, not a confirmed calendar date. As of October 9, 2026, the City of Las Vegas’s published project information describes 24 new courts scheduled to open in early 2027.

There is a conflicting timing signal: in July, Mayor Shelley Berkley said she expected a ribbon cutting later in 2026. That update did not supply a specific completion date, according to FOX5’s July 3 report. It should not be treated as a confirmed public-play opening announcement.

Why both 2026 and 2027 appear

The announcements give different timing signals, but do not establish whether the opening target formally changed. None gives a day when players can start using the courts.

Record Timing stated What it establishes
City’s January 5, 2026 project bulletin Courts expected to open in early 2027 The city’s announced opening target
City’s groundbreaking event listing January 8, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. A construction ceremony, not an opening
FOX5’s July 3, 2026 construction update Mayor expected a ribbon cutting later that year A later expectation, without an exact completion or public-play date

Early 2027 remains the target in the city’s published project overview. It should not be converted into a January opening date or a guaranteed deadline.

What is being built—and how to count it

The complex is planned for the southwest corner of Wayne Bunker Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road, in Las Vegas’s Ward 4. The city’s January announcement specifies 24 courts with lighting and fencing, plus shade structures, seating, lighted pathways, parking and vehicle access from Alexander Road. It puts the project cost at a little over $12 million. The city’s project overview also lists Ward 4 and restrooms among the project details.

For court-growth tracking, these are 24 planned additions, not 24 verified operating courts. The city’s January bulletin gives a baseline of 35 public pickleball courts after the Lorenzi Park addition and a projected total of 59 when Wayne Bunker opens:

35 courts in the announced baseline + 24 planned courts = 59 projected courts.

That is an increase of ~69%, calculated as 24 ÷ 35—not a doubling. Although FOX5’s January report said the project would double the city’s public courts, the municipal figures support the narrower claim. This inventory concerns City of Las Vegas public courts, not every public or private court across the Las Vegas Valley. See our explanation of dedicated public versus total pickleball court counts.

Before planning a visit

Neither the city project announcement nor the July update establishes opening-day hours, fees or reservation rules. Look for a dated city announcement explicitly confirming public access to the new courts before making a trip. A groundbreaking date, completion target or ribbon-cutting expectation is not a substitute for that confirmation.
