Southwest Center adds eight pickleball courts, bringing outdoor total to 14

Texarkana’s Southwest Center added eight new Rotary Pickleball Courts, bringing its dedicated outdoor inventory from six to 14. The organizer’s listing for the October 2–4, 2026 CHRISTUS St. Michael’s Texarkana Fall Open identifies eight new courts plus six older courts and describes all of them as dedicated outdoor courts. Its rain updates also refer to 14 outdoor courts for catching up on matches once conditions allowed. Source: tournament organizer.

That is a facility-level expansion in Texarkana, Texas, not a count of every pickleball court across the Texas–Arkansas community.

What the expansion adds

Measure Figure What it means
Previous dedicated outdoor courts 6 Older courts retained at the site
New Rotary courts 8 Additional dedicated outdoor courts
Combined outdoor inventory 14 Six older courts plus eight new ones
Increase over the previous outdoor inventory ~133% Calculated as 8 ÷ 6 × 100
Simultaneous doubles capacity 56 players Calculated as 14 courts × 4 players, if every court is available and used for doubles

The court counts are organizer-reported inventory figures; the percentage and player capacity are calculations. Capacity is not attendance, daily throughput or a measure of local participation.

The club’s separate facility listing also identifies three indoor courts shared with basketball. Those should remain separate from the 14 dedicated outdoor courts: adding them together without a label would mix dedicated inventory with shared-use space. The listing still shows only six outdoor courts and contains future-opening language, so it should not be treated as an updated post-expansion outdoor count. Source: club places-to-play page.

Opening report versus ribbon-cutting date

KTBS reported the eight-court addition on September 16, 2026, describing players as having more room to play. It said a ribbon cutting would celebrate completion at 6 p.m. the following Thursday—September 17. The report credits a partnership involving the city, Texarkana Pickleball Club, local organizations, businesses and donors. Source: KTBS.

For a dated infrastructure record, keep those milestones distinct: September 16 is the publication date of the opening report; September 17 is the announced ceremony date. The October tournament’s operational updates corroborate subsequent use of the expanded outdoor inventory, rather than merely a construction proposal.

Public access and the club’s membership target

The Southwest Center is at 3222 West 7th Street, Texarkana, TX 75501. The club describes it as free and public, while also advertising reserved member sessions and Saturday member-priority access. Free public access therefore should not be read as unrestricted access to every court at every time. Confirm session times and court availability with the club before visiting; its play information page still partly reflects the pre-expansion facility.

As checked October 8, 2026, the club advertises $25 annual membership and says it aims to attract 400+ members. That is a recruitment target—not a reported membership total or a count of Texarkana pickleball players. The club also states that membership, donation and tournament proceeds will be reinvested in the Southwest Center or pickleball locally. Source: Texarkana Pickleball Club.

Neither the membership target nor the increased playing capacity establishes how many additional residents are playing.
